BEFORE I FALL BY LAUREN OLIVER
Ages: 14 and up
What if you only had one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life?
Samantha Kingston has it all: looks, popularity, the perfect boyfriend. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life. Instead, it turns out to be her last.
The catch: Samantha still wakes up the next morning. Living the last day of her life seven times during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death—and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing.

First and foremost I have to say upfront that I liked the book and the writer's style of writing. I actually look forward to reading her other books that she has written.
With that being said, I really believe that she could have told the story with about 100 fewer pages! Another thing that I didn't like is that the chapters were way too long. I was getting a little tired of Samantha repeating the same day that she died for seven full days. I realize that she was supposed to be learning something about herself and was trying to change the outcome but I think it could have been accomplished in less days!!! It really turned me off as a reader and I came very close to not finishing the story, however, I was glad that I did.
Young Samantha realized that she wasn't perfect and had several things to change about herself. Also, she learns a lot about her friends that she didn't know as well. The biggest lesson I think that she learns is that the true friends are those that are there for you when things get rough. I was actually brought to tears when Samantha and Kent were together.
Two of the reasons I chose this book to read was:
1. it was listed on one of the Top 10 Young Adult books of 2011 and
2. I loved its' cover. Okay, I know I shouldn't judge a book by its' cover; but I did!!!
I think that if you choose to read this book you would enjoy it, however, once again there was just way too much of the same thing repeated. I am surprised that the editor didn't point this out to the author. I would think that young people especially would get bored by this same day being repeated again and again.
